KentCliseOn October 16, Kent Clise began as our Interim Pastor. Many of you may know Pastor Clise from the time that he served here during Pastor Rice’s Sabbatical in the summer of 2013. Kent grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Butler University. He then received his Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary and continued his postgraduate education at Regent’s College in London and St. Andrew’s University in Scotland. He has served as Senior Pastor for Presbyterian congregations in Rockford (Illinois), Durham (North Carolina), and First Presbyterian Church of Northville, where he is Pastor Emeritus. In addition to his pastoral positions he has been very involved in public education issues and has served on boards and task forces relating to public school discipline and health education.

Kent is married to Paula, a career educator in the area of education for the gifted, who is now an Adjunct Professor in the College of Education at Madonna University. They have two sons who serve as attorneys in New York City and Chicago, and several grandchildren. True to his Hoosier State upbringing, Kent played basketball while growing up and remains an enthusiastic fan of the game.

In Kent’s words, “A commercial airline pilot friend of mine once commented on his career by observing, ‘I have spent my life helping people get home!’ In my view, this is a perfect summation of my calling as pastor. I am trying to help people to reach their God appointed Home. My greatest love is teaching others about Jesus Christ so that they may be homeward bound to God.” Kent feels honored to receive the call to serve as our Interim Pastor and states, “This congregation is exceptional and carries a reservoir of strength and faith character. Service as an Interim Pastor for me would be a privilege and a challenge to provide vision, hope and joyful purpose.”
